High-Quality, High-Performance Muffles for a Controlled Environment

Ceramic muffles are refractory enclosures used in heat treatment furnaces to create a controlled environment around the workpiece, acting as thermal barriers to isolate the material being processed from direct contact with flame, combustion gases, or heating elements.

Magma Ceramics offers high-quality, high-performance muffles which can be purchased as a complete set for a re-build, or as separate components for a partial re-build or minor repair.

The 63V Silicon Carbide material used to make these components exhibits excellent resistance to attack by contaminants found within the furnace, such as machine oils and inhibitors often present in the workload.

This gives Magma's material particular resistance to glazing which can be detrimental to other muffles used in this application.

With other muffles this results in “glazing” and fusing together of the muffles, resulting in premature failure. Magma Muffles are proven to greatly reduce this problem.

The Silicon Carbide material is also highly abrasion resistant and has good thermal conductivity, making it an ideal grade of material for this application.

Segmental silicon carbide (SiC) Muffles

Segmental silicon carbide (SiC) muffles are modular ceramic heating chambers which are designed to be used in industrial furnaces, especially in continuous or tunnel-type heat treatment systems.

Instead of being a single, monolithic muffle, a segmental muffle is built from multiple interlocking or adjacent sections, offering greater flexibility, easier maintenance, and better thermal performance in certain applications.

It is also highly resistant to abrasion, adding to its desirability for this market.
